Learning and Teaching in Religion
Our Goal
As a Catholic Community Holy Spirit School is dedicated to the education of the whole child with emphasis on the spiritual development of each child. At Holy Spirit we recognise and celebrate that each individual student is unique and special, and that difference provides us with opportunities for learning about other cultures, faiths, way of living, way of learning, other ways of speaking and other ways of being. We foster a love of God and develop religious knowledge and understanding within the Catholic tradition, encouraging all in the community to develop their Faith and Spirituality. We aim to share and experience the teachings of the Bible in such a way that we develop and empower students to respect and live the Gospels. We foster and nurture the Catholic faith and spirit through the values underpinned in the Biblical teachings, as well as following in the footsteps of Jesus and Catherine McAuley.
Our Beliefs...
The Religion Curriculum P-12 enables students in Prep to Year 2 to learn about Jesus’ life as a Jew, his family and friends and his teachings and actions. They learn about God’s loving relationship with people and all of creation, and the many ways in which communities of believers nurture their loving relationship with God, others and with all of creation.
The Religion Curriculum P-12 enables students in Year 3 to Year 6 to develop their understanding of community and its significance for sharing and developing faith. They learn about the experiences of different communities, past and present and the many ways in which faith is lived out and celebrated in their lives. Students learn about the particular communities for whom the human authors of sacred texts shaped their writings. They learn about the relational nature of God as Trinity and the significance of Jesus’ law of love.
