Celebration of liturgy and sacraments are part of the formal, public prayer and worship of the Church. The Church encourages full, conscious and active participation in liturgy. Holy Spirit celebrates Liturgy of the Church through celebration of the sacraments, Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Hours. |

- Set of mass booklets for staff and students to use to ensure an understanding of the principles, structures and planning of liturgy
- School purchase of LabOra for use in planning masses according to the Church season
- Planning template for mass is followed for masses (weekly and whole school) and shared with the parish
- AP-RE meets with parish priest when planning Graduation Mass, whole school masses as well as liturgies for Leadership
- Information shared between parish and school related to the Sacraments in both the parish and school newsletters
- Staff, students and parents invited to participate as readers, Eucharistic ministers, music ministers and in preparing the sacred space for masses and liturgies
- Resources from the Religion portal used as part of units of work and in preparation for masses (e.g.Together at one altar)
- Students make choices about music related to masses with guidance from their teacher
Promoting Participation in Liturgy:
At Holy Spirit this is evidenced by:
- Staff teach children expectations for the celebration of liturgy e.g. entering and leaving the church, responding during mass, gestures
- Information is shared with parents to assist them to build these expectations also
- Weekly Sacred Singing to practise new songs and responses for weekly masses, special celebrations and whole school liturgies
- Power Point of responses and music for mass to allow all to participate
- Practise readings and responses in preparation for class and whole school masses
- Reflect on scripture for class and whole school masses to enrich the experience of the children and select appropriate music
- Opportunities for students to engage in parish, deanery and Archdiocesan gatherings - World Day of Prayer, Catholic Education Week, Caritas, Orange Sky Laundry and Catholic Missions Masses
- Use of art work, posters etc. created by students to enhance a space e.g. creating Stations of the Cross, mandalas
- Students are invited for a blessing at communion
Celebrating Sacraments:
At Holy Spirit this is evidenced by:
- Weekly class masses with the parish allow students to engage in Eucharist and a blessing
- School supports the Sacraments - Penance and Eucharist with a whole school blessing and retreat day as well as celebrating this in the newsletter and displaying names in the foyer
- Invite community prayer for these children through the newsletter
- School community gifts each student with something to celebrate these special times e.g. card, blessing, prayer, picture
